The Senior Product Distribution Risk Manager has a focus on Wealth distribution risk. The primary responsibilities are to work with stakeholders to embed relevant Wealth related risk policies in Canada and to instill the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) culture within the Canadian Wealth Management businesses. The jobholder is also responsible for the oversight of current risk issues focusing on the Wealth management businesses, ensure that it is operating within the defined risk appetite, identify & mitigate top and emerging risks and provide senior management with timely updates on risk issues.
The jobholder reports to the WPB Chief Risk Officer in Canada. The jobholder is required to work closely with key stakeholders and oversee the management of risk in Canada’s Wealth business, by continually reassessing the business and operational risks taking account of economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, the Group’s risk appetite and operating procedures and practices.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior management and the relevant internal stakeholders to ensure HSBC can deliver the client outcomes relevant to the wealth management business through establishing an appropriate culture.
  • Accountable for overseeing the embeddedness of wealth related framework and policies, which is essential to support WPB strategy to grow the wealth management business in a sustainable manner.
  • Upon request from the WPB CRO, provide independent risk assessments and oversight of product governance, business initiatives and wealth transformation programs.
  • Provide input into local, regional, and global Risk strategy and priorities. Accountable for decision making under often ambiguous circumstances.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC Brand.
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
  • Provide regular reports to highlight key wealth risk information and trends to senior management in a timely manner, including undertaking assurance reviews.
  • Clear communication and articulation of the risk management strategies and activities to support the wealth management business strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (in conjunction with Compliance) and are well supported by local policies and procedures to ensure adherence to the relevant FIMs and other group standards.
  • Strengthen awareness and understanding of wealth management risk within the Bank, embedding risk and control considerations into all activities undertaken, to ensure a long term, sustainable and customer-oriented wealth management business.
  • Responsible for the oversight of current risk issues within the wealth management business, identify & mitigate top and emerging risks and provide senior management with timely updates on risk issues.
  • Support the delivery of key risk projects and change initiatives including implementation of wealth risk framework.
  • Ownership for working across the organization to serve clients better. Engaging others to create innovative solutions to complex and strategic problems to achieve the best solution for the entire organization.
  • Accountable for driving risk mitigation activity identified through the Wealth Risk & Controls framework [e.g., through WMOC] and ensuring existing risk controls are effective.
  • Maintain effective and productive relationships with key external (e.g., regulator, industry bodies, and auditors) and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
  • Adopt and implement common, Group processes, aimed at adopting group best practice where appropriate and applicable.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently under tight timelines
  • Sound knowledge of wealth management products is essential, with relevant working experience in the wealth management business and/or wealth management product distribution
  • Solid communication and influencing skills, particularly with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication in English
  • Experience in a risk management / control function environment preferred
  • University degree in Business, Finance, or related discipline
  • Strong analysis, decision-making and risk management and evaluation skills
  • Working experience in more than one banking markets advantageous
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as CFA, CFP, FRM or equivalent advantageous
